OK to talk about pay - 01-07-2008 |
Employment contracts with clauses that forbid employees from talking to each other about their personal pay and conditions will be outlawed if the Equality Bill announced by Harriet Harman last week becomes law.
According to research conducted by the former Equal Opportunities Commissio in 2004 nearly a quarter of all employment contracts contain a gagging clause.
The Government Equalities Office has said that inequality at work can not be tackled if the elements that make people un equal are hidden. Transparency in the way different people are paid is essential if discrimination is to be eradicated.
